Menus

Menus define how learners navigate through a course. Different menu styles (e.g. sidebar, top bar) are provided via installable plugins and selected using the Menu Picker in course settings.

Overview

Menus are a vital part of the learner experience, determining how Pages and Sub-Menus are presented. MAXRES Construct supports a range of menu styles that can be switched and configured per course.

Requirements

  • Construct or Admin access to course Configuration settings
  • Installed menu plugins (visible via Plugin Management)

The Menu Picker allows authors to assign a specific menu plugin to a course.

How to Select a Menu:

  1. Open the Course Editor.
  2. Navigate to Menu Picker settings (under Project Settings).
  3. Choose a menu from the dropdown list (each option corresponds to an installed plugin).
  4. Click Save.

The selected menu will control how Pages are rendered to the user.

Menus handle the primary course navigation, directly linked to your Course Structure.

Key Functions:

  • Navigation Control: Determines layout and user experience (e.g., collapsible sidebar, top bar, step menu).
  • Visual Style: The visual design of the menu matches the selected menu plugin.
  • Dynamic Content: The menu automatically displays the course's Pages and Sub-Menus in the defined structure.

Plugin-Based Architecture

Menus are installed as plugins, similar to themes.

  • Each menu type is a self-contained plugin.
  • Admins can install or remove menu plugins using the Plugin Management interface.
  • Once installed, menu plugins appear in the Menu Picker dropdown for authors to select.
tip

Menu plugins can be combined with different themes to create unique learner experiences.

The types and features of available menu plugins may vary between deployments. Common options include sidebar menus, top bar menus, and step-based navigation menus.

Refer to your instance-specific documentation or contact your Admin team to review installed menu types and their configuration options.
